COMPANION PLANTING LORE

twigdivbar.gif (4337 bytes)

Please remember that much of this is no more than 'folklore', passed down through generations of gardeners.  The 'art' of companion planting isn't exactly a science (yet).

Don't plant eggplant with tomatoes or potatoes.
Plant garlic or garlic chives around anything and everything but beans.
Don't plant peppers with tomatoes or cukes (they share diseases like tobacco mosaic and cucumber mosaic).
Don't plant potatoes with tomatoes (they share a blight).
Plant tomatoes away from corn, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, fennell and kohlrabi (they share pests).
Don't plant tomatoes near nut trees such as pecan, walnut or hickory (tree roots secrete a phytotoxin that is toxic to tomatoes).
Don't plant fennel next to bush beans (or other herbs or veggies, for that matter)
Plant radishes with Chervil - Chervil makes radishes very hot (believe which ever one you will)
Plant Dill with Cabbage, but keep away from Carrots and Carroway
Plant Chives with Carrots
Marjoram is a good companion to all veggies.
Plant Mint near cabbage and tomatoes.  Deters white cabbage moth.
Don't plant Anjelica and Dill
Basil doesn't like Rue
Fennel - Most plants dislike this herb
